Dr Barbara Nicholas offers advanced services in stakeholder engagement, relationship brokering and group facilitation, in addition to policy analysis. She brings a wealth of experience in central and regional government, research and teaching.

Barbara’s approach focuses on building relationships between people and institutions assuming the validity and contribution of multiple perspectives, and the need for agreements that can translate into action.

Barbara also has strong analytical skills which enable her to analyse, synthesize and communicate complex material from multiple areas of knowledge.

Recent clients include Environment Southland, Office of Ethnic Affairs, Ngai Tahu, Avon-Otakaro Network, Christchurch City Council and Environment Canterbury. Until early 2017 she was team leader for the facilitation team of the Canterbury Water Management Strategy for Environment Canterbury, where she facilitated the regional committee and two of the zone committees. That work built on earlier experience in central government policy, frequently in areas of complexity and/or controversy.

Barbara has recently handed over the care of the twelve hundred walnut trees she planted some years ago, and shifted to planting many native trees on an old forestry block.
